CONCORD, N.H.-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team topped the Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) in a nine-inning Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) slugfest on Wednesday, May 3.
Sophomore Max Salevsky (Hollis, Maine) got the nod in his second start for the SeaWolves and pitched seven complete, surrendering 10 runs. But for Salevsky, his team offered plenty of run support posting a season-high 18 runs on a season-high 22 hits.
Head Coach Jordan Yanni commented, "I told them to be aggressive at the plate today, and they did just that." The SeaWolves collected nine extra-base hits featuring three long-balls courtesy of sophomores Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) and Nathan Huot (Biddeford, Maine), and first-year Jakob Latini (Portland, Maine).
Five players in the SMCC lineup had themselves three-hit afternoons, sophomore Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, Maine) with four. Sophomore Carter Chabot (Lewiston, Maine) broke out of his 1-12 skid with four RBI's; Latini plated five and came around to score five more runs.
Junior Charlie Hallack (Augusta, Maine) came on for two innings of relief to preserve Salevsky's second win of the year. NHTI's Zach Poisson suffered the loss.
SMCC (7-4-1 YSCC, 10-14-1 overall) captures the regular season title and top-seed in the conference postseason tournament. The Lynx conclude their regular season at 6-6 in conference play, 6-16 overall.
The SeaWolves will have the first-round bye in the YSCC Tournament and play the winner of Central Maine Community College vs. NHTI for the conference championship.
