SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE - Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball turned in an all-around performance, defeating Great Bay CC, 10-1, on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SMCC opened the scoring in the second inning, taking advantage of traffic on the bases as Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the game's first run.
The Seawolves extended their lead in the third inning with a three-run frame. Samuel Potié (Gatineau, Quebec) drove in a run with a single, Tristan Laplante (Durham, Maine) followed with an RBI knock, and Michael Pierce (Greenfield, Mass.) capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
After a quiet middle stretch, SMCC broke things open in the sixth inning. The Seawolves capitalized on defensive miscues and baserunning, highlighted by Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.) swiping home as part of a four-run inning to push the lead to 8-0.
SMCC continued to tack on with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, while Great Bay plated its lone run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
On the mound, SMCC pitching was limited Great Bay to just one hit while striking out 14 batters in the game.
