SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Sophomore Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.), of the Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team, was named Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Player of the Week on Friday, Dec. 23. for his dominant play in week seven of the regular season.
SMCC played one game in the week prior to the semester’s end at rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Despite a 72-57 loss to the Mustangs, Silvestri came off the bench to lead his team with 12 points. He added five rebounds, four offensive, in 23 minutes of work.
A high energy player at the forward and center positions, Silvestri gets it done on both ends of the floor, often changing the momentum for the SeaWolves late in so many games this season. The sophomore averages 11.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this season—efficient production in averaging 14 minutes per game spanning 14 games this season. Silvestri ranks third in the conference sporting a 60.6 field-goal percentage.
Against CMCC, Silvestri extended his streak of 10 or more points to seven consecutive games and will look to continue his effectiveness as the sixth man for his team in the second half of the season. Next, the SeaWolves travel to the Community College of Rhode Island on Saturday, Jan. 7 for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
