Hold Your Horses: Seawolves Produce Longest Win Streak in Program History
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team delivered an 80-76 Senior Night victory over rival Central Maine Community College on Saturday evening at The HUB, extending its winning streak to 13 consecutive games - the longest win streak in program history. The previous record of 12 straight wins had stood for more than 30 years, set by the 1993-94 Seawolves squad.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC opened the game with a 3-pointer from Sean Bosia (Dracut, Massachusetts). A few plays later, Nathan Mugisha (Rwanda, East Africa) knocked down a triple as the Seawolves came out firing on all cylinders. Chance Mercier (Ellsworth, Maine) later added a jump shot to help bolster the Seawolves' early lead.
Midway through the first half, CMCC began chipping away at the SMCC advantage. Ellis Macea (Lawrence, Massachusetts) answered with a basket to keep the Seawolves in front. Late in the half, both teams traded scores before Mercier finished the half with a layup to give SMCC a 36-33 lead at the break.
Coming out of halftime, Mugisha scored on back-to-back layups as the teams continued to go back and forth. Macea later added a jumper to keep SMCC in front as the Seawolves continued to connect on shots.
In the closing minutes, Mugisha scored on a layup to help SMCC regain the lead before Jace Bessey (Jay, Maine) buried a 3-pointer to tighten the score. After SMCC built a small cushion, Bosia knocked down another triple. Mercier sealed the victory late with a steal and two free throws.
