Athletics Engagement and Academic Report: Spring 2024

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— At the conclusion of the semester, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards published the findings of the semi-annual Spring 2024 Athletics Engagement and Academic Report. The report shows student-athlete GPAs and retention rates based on United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) normal progress rules for athletic participation eligibility—a higher threshold than those standards of the College.

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletic Department held its annual awards banquet on Tuesday, May 7 at Purpoodock Golf Club in celebration of its student-athletes and their many successes throughout the 2023-24 academic year and athletic seasons.

The Yankee Small College Conference announced its Academic All-Conference team from the first semester, 2023. We are proud to have so many outstanding student-athletes who represent our institutions from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and New York.

Men’s Soccer falls short in YSCC Finals

ALBANY, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men’s soccer team made a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) finals appearance on Sunday, Nov. 5, suffering a 4-1 loss to the #1 Mustangs from Central Maine Community College.

AUGUSTA, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men’s soccer team took another from the University of Maine at Augusta in convincing fashion, 8-1, in the regular season finale on Sunday, Oct. 15.

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team earned a 3-1 result over conference foes Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in comeback fashion on Thursday, Sept. 28.

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team scored a season-high 10 goals and kept a clean sheet in its win over the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) on Thursday, Sept. 15.

HAVERHILL, Mass.-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on the road vs. Northern Essex Community College (NECC), 5-2, on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Men's Soccer picks up first ever win over Massasoit CC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team clashed with the Warriors from Massasoit Community College in its season opener at Wainwright Sports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 2. The Seawolves picked up their first-ever victory over the NJCAA powerhouse 2-1, in Coach Houghton's debut on the sidelines.
