SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) continued its early-season streak with a commanding 6-0 victory over the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Sunday afternoon at the Wainwright Sports Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves came out on the front foot, racking up shots and corners in the opening minutes. Early chances from Cole Adawadkar (Springvale, Maine), Jaxon Olsen (Gardiner, Maine), and Jil-Emmanuel Sehr (Loganville, Georgia) tested CCRI's backline, while goalkeeper Ethan Homa (Westbrook, Maine) made a pair of saves to keep things level.
SMCC's breakthrough came in the 29th minute when senior captain Louis Sehr (Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire) finished a shot off a pass from Tim Eulenberger (Iffezheim, Germany), giving the Seawolves a 1-0 lead. Just minutes later, Ibrahim Alzirkani doubled the lead with a strike from close range, with an assist from Sehr.
The Seawolves kept up the pressure, and in the 37th minute, Nick Simon Mboumba (Portland, Maine) made it 3-0 with a clean finish on a ball delivered once again by Sehr — his second assist of the day. SMCC nearly extended the lead before halftime with multiple shots on frame, including back-to-back saves on Luke Gorczok (Orrington, Maine) and a near miss from Alzirkani.
In the second half, SMCC's attack picked up right where it left off. Jaxon Olsen (Gardiner, Maine) re-entered the match in the 49th minute and immediately capitalized, scoring two goals in under seven minutes — both assisted by Tim Eulenberger (Iffezheim, Germany) — to blow the game open at 5-0. Moments later, Jil-Emmanuel Sehr (Loganville, Georgia) added a sixth with a clinical finish of his own, putting an exclamation point on the offensive onslaught.
Adao Lufumbu (Portland, Maine) entered in goal for the final stretch, while the defense and midfield continued to shut down CCRI's attacks.
BETWEEN THE POSTS:
Ethan Homa (Westbrook, Maine) earned the win in net, making three saves over 61 minutes to preserve the clean sheet before handing duties to sophomore Adao Lufumbu (Portland, Maine), who closed out the shutout.
