Lady Seawolves Get Win vs YSCC Rival CMCC
South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team hosted Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) today for the first time in the 2013 spring season. The Seawolves started the game out big going up 6-0 in the first inning by a grand slam from freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell(Limington, ME). SMCC scored 2 more in the 3rd inning to go up 8-0 but the Mustangs didn't give up as they scored 7 runs in the final 3 innings. The Seawolves lead proved to be to much as they held on to grab a 9-7 victory behind winning pitcher Lindsey Howell(Limington, ME).
The Seawolves had an all around effort as 7 different players had hits. Howell was one of them as she went 3 for 4 tonight that included 2 doubles and a grand slam. Howell also scored twice and had 5 RBI's. Freshman third baseman Kathryn Chicoine (Athol, MA), freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) and freshman short stop Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) each contributed 2 hits and had a combined 4 runs scored. Blanchard also contributed 2 RBI's.
With the win tonight, SMCC improves to 4-11 overall and 4-3 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will have a couple days off before Central Maine Community College (CMCC) come back to town. The two teams will play this Sunday, April 14th with games starting at 1:00 and 3:00pm.
