South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team swept the double header today against Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC). In the first game, SMCC scored 10 runs in the first 5 innings to beat the Mustangs 10-6. In the second game, pitcher Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME) stole the show as she threw a 2 hitter leading the Seawolves to a 10-0 win in 5 innings.
In game 1, the Seawolves were led by third baseman Danielle Mobbs (Richmond, VT) who went 3 for 4 at the plate. Mobbs also had 2 RBI's, a run scored and drew a walk. Freshman short stop Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) also went 3 for 4 and scored a run. Freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME) picked up the YSCC win.
In game 2, SMCC had an all-around effort as 7 different players got a hit. Sophomore center fielder Antonetta Brown (Portland, ME) led the way as she went 4 for 4 while also scoring 4 of SMCC's 10 runs. Freshman catcher Roberta Trafton (Corinth, ME) and freshman pitcher Lindsey Howell (Limington, ME) each went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and they had a combined total of 5 RBI's. Howell picked up her second win of the day.
With both YSCC conference wins today, SMCC improves to 6-11 overall and 6-3 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will hit the road tomorrow April 15th as the travel to Rhode Island to play Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). The first game is scheduled for 3:00pm with the second game following at 5:00pm.
