South Portland - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves split their double header with Northern Essex CC, winning game one 4-2 but slipping in game two 2-1.
Northern Essex scored right out of the gate in game one to take a 1-0 lead. The NECC defense was then able to hold the Seawolves scoreless for three innings before three consecutive SMCC singles in the bottom of the fourth led to an Anna Allard (Parsonsfield, ME) score. Danielle Mobbs (Richmond, VT) followed up with an RBI single to bring Kathryn Gilio (Hampden, ME) across the plate and give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead. NECC put up a second run in the fifth to tie the game at five runs apiece. Gilio answered with a two RBI double to give SMCC the 4-2 lead that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game. Seawolves' pitcher Erica Brochu (Lewiston, ME) chalked up five strikeouts, giving up only five hits and two runs as she came away with her second win of the season.
In game two both teams struggled to find their offense with the score tied 1-1 from the second inning until the sixth when the Knights scored as the SMCC defense was preoccupied with a third out rundown situation. The Seawolves were able to get themselves in a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to capitalize, falling to the Knights 2-1. Charlotte Lewis (Fryeburg, ME) scored the lone Seawolves run when she was brought home on an RBI single by Allard.
The Lady Seawolves are now 3-3 for the spring season and will return to the field on Thursday at 4pm to play a single game against YSCC rival CMCC.
