SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics has announced the hiring of Autumn Jones as the seventh Head Softball Coach in program history effective today, July 23.
Autumn attended Maine Maritime Academy where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology and graduated as Class President in 2013. She was a member of both the varsity softball and soccer programs and also served on the Mariners' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Following her undergraduate, Autumn coached the Junior Varsity Softball and Soccer programs at Mount Desert Island High School from 2015-17 and most recently volunteered with the Old Orchard Beach Recreation Department as a Little League coach ages 6-12.
Director of Athletics and Associate Dean of Students Matt Richards stated, "I am thrilled to welcome Autumn as the newest member to the SeaWolves coaching staff. Autumn will bring a youthful perspective and positive attitude to the program, and shows a wealth of knowledge for a game she deeply respects. Her time spent coaching in the high school ranks and playing experience at the collegiate level will certainly aid to her success here at SMCC."
Jones commented, "There are many opportunities in this world but it's your passion that pulls you to certain things. I'm eager to see what these women have to offer and what I can offer them; I'm willing to learn from them just as they will learn from me. My goals for this season are to strive to be our best on and off the softball field, and to find motivation to improve as a team every single day. I'm very excited to join SMCC Athletics and to be a part of the campus community."
The Lady SeaWolves culminated a 14-9 overall record a season ago, finishing as runners-up in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC).
