Mont Alto Holds Off Seawolves Rally; Moraine Valley Clips SMCC
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball dropped a high-scoring contest to Penn State Mont Alto, 14-12, Tuesday afternoon at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.
GAME ONE
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball dropped a high-scoring contest to Penn State Mont Alto, 14-12, Tuesday afternoon at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Penn State Mont Alto jumped out to an early advantage, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Seawolves quickly responded with a four-run frame of its own. Drea Rideout (Yarmouth, Maine) highlighted the inning with a two-run double before Ella Voth (Lacombe, Alberta) followed with an RBI single to give the Seawolves an early lead.
Mont Alto answered with a big second inning, plating seven runs to take control of the game.
The Seawolves battled back in the fourth. Rideout drove in two more with a triple and Voth added another RBI knock as SMCC scored five runs in the inning to pull within one.
Mont Alto extended its lead again with four runs in the fifth inning. Rideout doubled home a run and Voth ripped an RBI triple to cut the deficit to 14-12 at the end of the fifth to chip away at the gap.
The Seawolves threatened late but could not complete the comeback as Mont Alto held on for the win.
Rideout led the offensive effort with four hits, including a triple and two doubles, while driving in five runs. Voth added four hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Southern Maine dropped a tight contest in game two, falling 4-3 to Moraine Valley Community College.
Moraine Valley opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning before adding single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta) settled in after the early damage, keeping the Cyclones in check while piling up eight strikeouts in a complete game effort.
The Seawolves rallied in the fifth inning. Emma Hartt (Edmonton, Alberta) sparked the offense with a single before Scotvold drove in a run. Ariana Cross (Orrington, Maine) followed with a two-run double to left field to trim the deficit to 4-3.
SMCC threatened in the later innings but could not find the tying run as Moraine Valley held on for the victory.
Scotvold finished with a strong performance in the circle, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out eight over seven innings.
