Women’s Basketball Earns Road Win to Start the Season
It was a tight game throughout, with six lead changes and the score tied at the half 30-30. SMCC used pressure defense to cause 22 turnovers and gained 27 offensive rebounds to pace the win down the stretch. SMCC converted on 3 of 4 attempts from the foul line in the last 42 seconds to seal the victory.
SMCC was led by freshmen Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) and Rogetta Donalson (Hyannis, MA) with 18 points each. Hoyt also led the Seawolves with 13 rebounds while Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) chipped in 11 rebounds. UNBSJ was paced by Rachel Jefferson who had a game high 19 points.
SMCC (1-0 overall 0-0 YSCC) will play Dalhousie University Sunday morning at 10am in the second round of the CAN-AM Tournament before opening at Home against YSCC opponent Unity College on Thursday, November 1 at the Hutchinson Union Building Athletic Center.
