Concord, NH - This afternoon the third seeded Seawolves faced off against the top seeded Saints of CSJ in an attempt to claim the YSCC championship title. The Lady Seawolves trailed by as many 16 points in the second half of today's game and despite an impressive comeback, going ahead by one point with 2:48 remaining, the Saints were able to come away with a hard fought 72-67 triumph.
Concord, NH - Tonight YSCC rivals Southern Maine CC and Central Maine CC battled for the right to compete in tomorrow's conference championship game. The Seawolves used full court defensive pressure to hold the Mustangs to just 28% shooting from the field and 16.7%, 2-12, from the three point line to come away with the 62-58 victory.
Concord, NH - The Lady Seawolves started out red hot in tonight's YSCC quarterfinal matchup, shooting 56% from the floor and 7-12 from beyond the arc in the first half as they picked up the 81-40 win over Vermont Technical College.
Randolph Center, VT - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves wrapped up their regular season with a game at Vermont Technical College. A tightly called game resulted in three of the four SMCC post players entering halftime sporting three fouls. Despite the early foul trouble the Seawolves were able to hold and pick up 71-49 victory.
South Portland - Last night the Lady Seawolves played their final home game of the regular season and point guard Tiana Burton (Brunswick, ME) made sure her last time playing in HUB gymnasium was a special one. Burton came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points, including four made shots from beyond the arc, to lift the Seawolves over the Mustangs, 81-67. This was SMCC's first victory over CMCC since the first semester of the 2011-12 season.
Machias - In yesterday's game between the Lady Seawolves and the Clipper of UMaine-Machias, freshman shooting guard Kendra Kagiliery (Kittery, ME) netted a career-high 16 points while shooting 50% from the field to help SMCC pit up conference win number ten, 79-28.
South Portland - The Lady Seawolves used full court defensive pressure to alleviate a tough shooting night on the offensive end of the floor and forced NHTI into 35 turnovers to come away with the 66-52 victory. Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds, including 7-9 shooting from the charity stripe.
South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves picked up the program's first ever victory in eight previous attempts against the Lady Bulldogs of Dean College. The Bulldogs scored the first two points of the game on a Janaysia James layup but the Seawolves responded when point guard Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) banked in a three pointer as the shot clock expired to take the lead that Dean would never relinquish. The Bulldogs kept the game close, never letting the Seawolves pull away by more than nine, but SMCC prevailed in the end, 74-65.
South Portland - Tonight the Lady Seawolves used their defensive pressure to force Unity into 37 turnovers, which translated into 44 SMCC points, to come away with the 113-23 triumph in tonight's YSCC women's basketball action.
Up by as many as 15 points in the second half, Maine-Presque Isle could not hold onto the lead and succumbed to the pressing defense of the Seawolves, as SMCC grabbed the 68-58 victory on Saturday afternoon.
South Portland - In this afternoon's women's basketball action the Lady Knights of the Community College of Rhode Island were able to hold on for the win, despite fouling out two starters and only having four eligible players for the final 2:36 seconds of the contest, as they defeated the Lady Seawolves 61-53.
South Portland - In this afternoon's YSCC basketball action the Lady Seawolves of SMCC outrebounded the Golden Eagles of EMCC, 71-47, and forced the Eagles to commit 29 turnovers as SMCC rolled to a 94-44 victory.
South Portland - In tonight's YSCC women's basketball action the Lady Seawolves of SMCC were out to avenge a 64-61 loss that was handed to them earlier in the season by the Moose of UMaine - Augusta. The Seawolves used unselfish play, dishing out 27 assists on 38 made field goals, and full court man to man pressure to force the Moose into 28 turnovers and come away with an 86-58 victory.
South Portland - In this afternoon's YSCC women's basketball matchup the Lady Seawolves took their home court against the Fighting Saints of the College of St. Joseph's (VT). A close fought first half found the Seawolves holding a two point advantage, 30-28, going into the break but in the second half the Seawolves shot a dismal 19%, 8-41, from the floor as the Fighting Saints pulled away to take the 71-58 win.
South Portland - The Lady Seawolves opened second semester play this evening, taking on USCAA foe Briarcliffe College out of Bethpage, New York. After a hard fought forty minutes the Lady Bulldogs prevailed with a one point victory, edging the Seawolves 84-83.
Auburn - Tonight looked like it may have been the night for the Lady Seawolves to snap the CMCC Mustangs 46 game conference win streak as they jumped out to an early 7-2 lead and maintained that lead for the majority of the game. However, after SMCC's defensive specialist Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) left the game due to injury, the Seawolves were to find an answer for CM's Gabby Foy, who knocked down 17 of her 24 points in the second half, and led her team to 66-62 victory.
