LINCOLN, R.I. — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team fell on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a 94-78 decision to CCRI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CCRI capitalized on early turnovers to jump out to a 10-2 lead and built a 25-17 advantage after the first quarter. The Knights continued to pressure defensively and convert in transition, stretching the margin to 42-34 at halftime.
SMCC found offensive rhythm in stretches of the third behind Mckenna Johnson (Gardiner, Maine), who scored in transition and attacked the rim, but CCRI answered each push with second-chance opportunities. The Knights took a 73-50 lead into the fourth.
The Seawolves showed fight in the final frame. Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) knocked down a three early in the quarter, and Johnson continued to score at the line and in the paint as SMCC put up 28 fourth-quarter points. Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) controlled the glass late and added interior finishes, but CCRI maintained separation down the stretch to secure the win.
