AUBURN, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team played to a thrilling 0-0 draw on the road against Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent Central Maine CC under the lights on Tuesday at the CMCC Turf.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite the scoreline, the match was anything but uneventful. The Seawolves generated consistent pressure throughout the contest, registering 20 total shots, including 10 on target, but were denied by the Mustangs' goalkeeper Devyn Eliasen.
SMCC nearly stole all three points in the closing seconds when captain Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) ripped a shot from just outside the box that seemed destined to go bar down. But Eliasen came up with a brilliant save—her 10th of the match—just as time expired, sealing the draw.
The Seawolves controlled much of the midfield, highlighted by Isabella Tanis (Bangor, Maine), who led the team with five shots and continued to be a creative engine all game. Addie Fiandaca (Springvale, Maine), Tiana Salazar (Windham, Maine), and Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine) all contributed strong chances but couldn't convert.
On the other end, SMCC's back line was composed and effective. Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) was a steady presence in net, stopping all six shots she faced to earn her second clean sheet of the season.
