SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team produced a commanding 3-0 home win over Word of Life on Saturday morning at the Wainwright Complex, improving to 4-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in YSCC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SMCC wasted little time setting the tempo, striking first in the 9th minute when Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) buried a shot off a feed from Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine). Civiello followed with a goal of her own just five minutes later, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to double the Seawolves' advantage.
The second half saw more pressure from the hosts, and Fournier added her second of the day in the 54th minute, chipping a perfectly placed ball off the left post and in—capping off one of her most complete performances of the season.
Goalkeepers Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) and Lana Emery (South Berwick, Maine) split time in net and combined for the shutout, making a save each.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- SMCC fired 34 total shots, 21 of them on frame.
- Annabelle Fournier recorded 2 goals, while Jocelyn Civiello had 1 goal and 1 assist.
- The Seawolves' defense allowed just 6 total shots, only 2 on target.
- SMCC held an 8–1 advantage in corner kicks.
- This is the team's fourth clean sheet of the season.
