AUBURN, MAINE – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team completed a stunning postseason run to capture the 2025 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championship, defeating top-seeded New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Seawolves, entering as the #3 seed in the East, swept through the bracket with wins over #2 CMCC, #1 ACPHS, and finally #1 NHTI — an undefeated squad — to secure their third YSCC Tournament title in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SEMIFINAL vs. ACPHS (Saturday):
In Saturday's semifinal, SMCC stunned the top seed from the West Division, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), with a dominant 4-0 victory in challenging windy conditions.
Junior captain Isabella Tanis (Bangor, Maine) opened the scoring in the 26th minute, intercepting a short goal kick and driving a left-footed strike just inside the post. Minutes later, Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine) broke free on a breakaway — while her shot was saved, Addie Fiandaca (Springvale, Maine) jumped on the rebound to double the lead.
In the second half, Civiello scored one of her own off a rebounded shot from Annabelle Fournier (York, Maine), and then helped set up Tanis's second goal in the 74th minute with a quick ball from Jaidyn Eastman (Limerick, Maine).
Aubrey Gilbert (Scarborough, Maine) recorded six saves to earn the shutout, while SMCC outshot the Panthers 21-9 and put 13 shots on target.
HOW IT HAPPENED – CHAMPIONSHIP vs. NHTI (Sunday):
Facing the undefeated Lynx in Sunday's final, SMCC weathered early pressure before capitalizing on their first chance. In the 14th minute, Eastman delivered a ball behind the NHTI backline. Civiello chased it down and beat the keeper to the ball, nudging it to Tanis, who rolled the finish into an open net for a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Amya Braley (Westbrook, Maine) tested the Lynx with a 35-yard free kick. NHTI's keeper made the initial stop, but Civiello cleaned up the rebound for her second goal of the tournament and a 2-0 advantage.
Gilbert made two huge saves late in the half, including a one-on-one kick stop in the 27th minute, preserving the two-goal margin.
In the second half, SMCC's defense remained composed, limiting NHTI to just a handful of clean looks to seal the victory.
