SMCC Volleyball Concludes Season In USCAA Nationals Pool Play
LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. —After capturing a second straight Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championship and earning the No. 6 seed in the 2025 USCAA Division II National Tournament, the Southern Maine Community College women’s volleyball team wrapped up a historic season with two matches in Pool Play, falling to Kent State–Tuscarawas and Penn State York.
LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. —After capturing a second straight Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championship and earning the No. 6 seed in the 2025 USCAA Division II National Tournament, the Southern Maine Community College women's volleyball team wrapped up a historic season with two matches in Pool Play, falling to Kent State–Tuscarawas and Penn State York.
The trip marked SMCC's second consecutive national tournament appearance under YSCC Coach of the Year Garrett Lewellen.
Seawolves Open Nationals Against Kent State–Tuscarawas
In their tournament opener on Thursday night, the Seawolves (16–2) dropped a 3–0 decision to No. 3 seed Kent State–Tuscarawas, 25–11, 25–22, 25–23.
After a tough first set, SMCC nearly forced a fourth frame behind strong play from Lilly Andreasen (Gorham, Maine), who recorded a team-high nine kills, and Elise Kaplan (Cumberland, Maine), who added six kills while hitting .385.
Defensively, Dalia Nelson (Kennebunk, Maine) ran the floor with 16 digs, while setters Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) and Amala Rumma (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) combined for 19 assists.
Friday Morning Battle: Seawolves Push Penn State York
SMCC returned to action early Friday, falling 3–0 to Penn State York, 25–19, 25–19, 25–22 — a tightly played match.
Sophomore middle Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) delivered a strong postseason performance with six kills, five aces, and a team-best five total blocks. Kaplan added six more kills, while Andreasen, Sivan Semo (Rollinsford, N.H.), and Kadie Madera (Sanford, Maine) each chipped in offensively.
Montell and Rumma combined again for 20 assists, and Nelson collected another five digs.
