Seawolves Split with UMaine-Augusta in Home Doubleheader
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball earned a 9–4 victory over the University of Maine-Augusta in game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
GAME ONE
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball earned a 9-4 victory over the University of Maine-Augusta in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UMaine-Augusta struck first in the second inning and added two more in the third to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Seawolves answered in the bottom half of the third. Jayden Tripp (Prospect, Maine) got the Seawolves on the board with an RBI double before Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) followed with a run-scoring double. Ariana Cross (Orrington, Maine) capped the rally with an RBI single to even the game at 3-3.
SMCC took control in the fourth inning. Scotvold delivered a two-run single to give the Seawolves their first lead of the game at 5-3.
After UMaine-Augusta pushed a run across in the fifth, SMCC created separation in the sixth. Scotvold launched a two-run home run to center field, and Taylor Swift (Keene, N.H.) added a two-run single to extend the lead to 9-4.
Scotvold handled the rest in the circle, going the distance while allowing five hits and four runs (two earned) over seven innings to secure the win.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UMaine-Augusta opened the scoring in the second inning, but the Seawolves quickly responded.
Southern Maine tied the game in the bottom of the second as Ella Voth (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada) delivered an RBI double and Hayley Cowan (Red Deer, Alberta) followed with an RBI single to make it 2-2.
The Moose broke the game open in the third inning, scoring five runs to take a 7-2 lead, capitalizing on a combination of hits and defensive miscues.
SMCC chipped away over the middle innings, including a sacrifice fly from Emma Hartt (Edmonton, Alberta) and continued pressure on the bases, but UMaine-Augusta continued to add on and maintained control throughout.
In the sixth inning, Scotvold provided a spark with a solo home run to left field, but the Seawolves were unable to complete the comeback.
SMCC totaled 11 hits in the contest, led by Cross with three and Ava Dionne (Lewiston, Maine) adding two.
