Athletics Engagement and Academic Report: Spring 2023

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— At the conclusion of the semester, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards published the findings of the semi-annual Spring 2023 Athletics Engagement and Academic Report. The report shows student-athlete GPAs and retention rates based on United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) normal progress rules for athletic participation eligibility—a higher threshold than those standards of the College.

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department held its annual awards banquet on Tuesday, May 9 at Purpoodock Golf Club in celebration of its student-athletes and their many successes throughout the 2022-23 academic year and athletic seasons.

AUBURN, Maine – The #3-ranked Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball defeated the #2-ranked Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta 57-49 in the semifinal round of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoff tournament Saturday, Mar. 4.

(YSCC) – The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) kicks off the 2023 Elite 8 Final Four this Saturday, March 4 with the quarterfinal matchups and the finals on Sunday, March 5th. The Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustangs are the hosts for the tournament. The YSCC will stream the Season Awards Show Friday night, and all tournament games from Kirk Hall in Auburn, Maine. SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team suffered only its second Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) loss of the season on Sunday, Feb. 12, bested by the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) 56-49.
