SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Bay Path University on Sunday afternoon at the Wainwright Sports Complex, improving to 2-1-0 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves wasted little time putting the pressure on, and in the 10th minute, junior forward Jaidyn Stuart (Strong, Maine) opened the scoring with a composed finish off a well-placed assist from freshman Addie Fiandaca (Springvale, Maine), giving SMCC an early 1-0 lead.
SMCC controlled possession and racked up 19 first-half shots before junior captain Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) doubled the advantage in the 39th minute with an unassisted strike.
The Seawolves picked up where they left off after halftime. In the 49th minute, sophomore defender Amya Braley(Pittsfield, Maine) found the back of the net with her first goal of the season to make it 3-0.
Fournier capped the scoring in the 85th minute with her second of the match — delivering the exclamation point on the day for the Seawolves.
SMCC fired off 30 total shots — 22 of which landed on goal — while limiting Bay Path to zero attempts offensively and earning 11 corner kicks.
BETWEEN THE POSTS:
Sophomore Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) started in net for SMCC and was later relieved by freshman Lana Emery (South Berwick, Maine). The two combined for a clean sheet, facing no shots on target in the 90-minute contest.
NEXT UP:
