Shutout Sweep: Seawolves Blank Massasoit in Doubleheader Sweep

GAME ONE

TAUNTON, MASS. - Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball opened its doubleheader against Massasoit Community College with a 12-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Taunton High School on March 14, 2026.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves jumped on the board in the first inning when Thomas Marcotte (New Bedford, Mass.) walked and later scored on an RBI single by Quinntin Gillies (Oshawa, Ontario) to give SMCC a 1-0 lead.

Southern Maine added two more runs in the fourth after Samuel Potié (Gatineau, Quebec) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Gillies before Tristan Laplante (Durham, Maine) crossed the plate on a passed ball.

The Seawolves broke the game open in the fifth inning, plating six runs. Potié delivered another triple to score Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.), Gillies followed with an RBI single, and Laplante added a run-scoring hit later in the inning. Bryce Wilcox (Strong, Maine) capped the rally with a two-run double that extended the lead.

Southern Maine added three more runs in the sixth. Gillies doubled and scored on a Laplante single before Mitchel Violette (Manchester, N.H.) drove in two more with a base hit to center.

The Seawolves totaled 13 hits in the game while holding Massasoit scoreless.

On the mound, Michael Pierce (Greenfield, Mass.) earned the win after tossing 4.2 scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing four hits. Garrett McLeod (Winterport, Maine) finished the game in relief with 1.1 shutout innings, helping secure the combined shutout.

GAME TWO

The Seawolves completed the doubleheader sweep Saturday evening, defeating Massasoit Community College 15-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, plating four runs in the first inning. Samuel Potié (Gatineau, Quebec) drove in the first run with a single before sacrifice flies from Quinntin Gillies (Oshawa, Ontario) and Tristan Laplante (Durham, Maine) added two more runs. Potié scored on a pass ball in the final at bat of the inning.

The offence continued in the second inning as SMCC tallied four more runs. Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) doubled to start the rally and scored on a Bryce Wilcox (Strong, Maine) RBI single. Later in the inning, Potié tripled and came around to score as SMCC extended the lead to 8-0.

SMCC added another run in the third before planting six runs in the fourth inning. Kyle Brown (Westbrook, Maine) delivered an RBI single, Wilcox added an RBI double, and Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.) ripped a triple to bring home another run as the Seawolves stretched the lead to 15-0.

On the mound, Cole Payne (Bangor, Maine) struk out seven batters over four innings while allowing just two hits. Aidan Dolan (Weymouth, Mass.) closed the game with a scoreless fifth inning to complete the shutout.
